Science Students See Niel deGrasse Tyson

On May 10th the High School Physics Class went to St. Louis to see the Gateway Arch and Neil deGrasse Tyson in person at the Touhill Performing Arts Center for his “An Astrophysicist Goes to the Movies, The Sequel”. The class drove down to St. Louis and first visited the Gateway Arch and learned all about the engenreeing it took to build such an amazing structure. Going to the Arch was an amazing experience and learning opportunity looking through the physics and engineering lens. That night the class got a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to see Neil deGrasse Tyson speak about the physics of movies! He covered a wide variety of movies from Mary Poppins to Gravity, of couse Star Wars and Star Trek and Harry Potter. The class learned about Topology and how all objects are just shapes with different holes or without holes. They were amazed by the 4D cube, also known as the tesseract. The class and Mrs. Ramaeker enjoyed the entire trip so much that they decided that when Neil deGrasse Tyson returns to the Mid-West they will all get together and see the “Three-quel” together!! We want to THANK Mrs. Radloff, Mr. Coffelt, and the School Board members for allowing us to have this amazing experience. Thank you!!!

This year’s Physics Class: Paul Eason, Trevor McDole (was unable to attend due to illness), Eli Owen, and Heiatua Paredes.
