Luke Jones Medals at the High School State Wrestling Tournament.

Senior Luke Jones reached the podium and medaled in the top 8 at this weekend’s State Wrestling Tournament.  Jones who has been wrestling for 4 years on the Central Decatur Wrestling Team, secured his place on the podium by beating Wyatt Schoenherr of West Monona, 11-4 in the 3rd round held Friday, February 16.

This was huge win for the Central Decatur Wrestling Program as only two wrestlers qualified for State after facing a tough bracket at Districts, Saturday, February 10.  Both Wyatt Dale and Luke Jones took 1st at Districts and punched their ticket to Wells Fargo Arena to compete at the State Wrestling Tournament.

The top 16 wrestlers in each weight class would compete for a chance to make the podium and medal in one of the biggest High School Events. Wyatt Dale, competing at 113 and Luke Jones at 160-weight class got their opportunity.  After Thursday night, Feb 15, only 12 wrestlers in each weight class would still be in the tournament as 4 were eliminated. And by Friday night, only 8 wrestlers remained.

Luke Jones was able to be a part of that elite 8. On Saturday night, Luke Jones took part in the Parade of Champions and stepped up on the podium to receive his 8th place medal in the State Wrestling Tournament.

During Luke’s senior year, he had over 60 Takedowns, 31 Escapes, 10 Reversals, 30 Near-pins, 22 Falls, 1 Tech-Fall, and 3 Major Decisions.   Luke ended his Senior year with a record of 45-11.  His High School career record was 130 wins and 76 losses.
