Mural Walk

Our fourth grade class learned about murals and different kinds of art. On December 2, 2021, we went on a mural walk to see art murals on main street.  First we went downtown and saw our first mural.  It was made in 1990 by Lamoni High School and Middle School students. It had a farm and a corn field.  Mrs. Pitt, our literacy teacher, explained a little about it.  Then we went down to the coffee shop and saw a beautiful illusion mural. It had the town of Lamoni and Graceland University. It also had the plains and the Grand River. It had a needle like it was sewing together a quilt.  It was beautiful. It had water towers. We walked back and took a right turn and then we saw the 2 Jefferson Highway murals.  One had an old fashioned car next to a gas station and a Lamoni sign and the Jefferson Highway sign.  It also had pine and palm trees. We also saw 2 sculptures on our way back. They were created by Matt Mickelson and Peggy Mothershead.  It was made of metal and bike seats instead of paint. It was a great day to be out of the classroom, but we still learned a lot!
