Jennifer Eason: State Track

Friday May 20, the Lamont Demon girls track team embarked on our third year of support for fellow team member Jennifer Eason at the state track meet. Jennifer qualified by winning both the 100m hurdle and 400m hurdle races at the District Track meet in Earlham, the week before.  By the middle of May, we expect the state meet to be sunny and warm, not this year!  Friday was down right chilly with a rain mixed in throughout the day.  Jennifer qualified for the finals in the 100m hurdles with the 2nd fastest time and earned the right to run in the final heat on Saturday afternoon.  The 400m hurdle race is a final and she was running in the final of 3 heats.  When the final race was done, Jennifer had finished 6th in class 1A, earning a medal!  We were hoping for better weather on Saturday for the finals of the 100m hurdles.  Mother Nature had other plans!  In a driving chilly rain, Jennifer entered the blocks with 7 other competitors all hoping for a state championship.  This final heat was one of the fastest heats in all 4 classes.  Jennifer ran great and ended up finishing 4th.  She earned 2 state medals and the first state track meet points in Coach Hampton's career as Demon Track coach!
